PDMA Issues Province-Wide Alert as Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast Across Sindh

Pakistan: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh on Thursday issued a province-wide alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast rain and thunderstorms across several parts of Sindh from July 23 to July 25 due to strong monsoon currents entering from the Arabian Sea.

Which Areas Are Expected to Receive Rain?

PDMA Sindh Director General Syed Salman Shah said district administrations, relevant government departments, and emergency response agencies have been directed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.

Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad, according to the authority.

Light to moderate rain has been forecast for Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Khairpur, while Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Thatta may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

In Karachi, weather conditions are expected to remain warm and humid, with partly cloudy skies and chances of isolated drizzle.

What Precautionary Measures Are Being Taken?

The PDMA warned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, electricity poles, solar panels, and billboards across the province.

Authorities have activated the monsoon preparedness plan and kept dewatering pumps and emergency equipment ready for deployment. The agency has also identified low-lying areas vulnerable to urban and flash flooding to ensure a rapid response if required.

Shah said emergency machinery would be moved immediately to affected areas if the situation worsened.

The PDMA chief advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, stay away from electricity poles and unsafe structures, and follow official safety instructions.
