Zalmi vs Islamabad United Set for High-Stakes PSL Qualifier Clash for Final Spot

Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United are set to face off in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Qualifier at the National Bank Stadium, with a place in the final on the line.

The winner of Tuesday’s high-stakes encounter will directly qualify for the final, while the losing side will get another opportunity through the Eliminator.

Zalmi, led by Babar Azam, have been the standout team of the season, finishing top of the league table with eight wins in 10 matches. Their only defeat came against Lahore Qalandars, while one match was washed out due to rain.

Islamabad United, captained by Shadab Khan, enter the contest after securing a four-wicket win over Multan Sultans and a dominant earlier performance against Hyderabad Kingsmen. Despite inconsistent form during the league stage, they remain two-time PSL champions and have a history of strong playoff performances.

Zalmi’s batting strength has been anchored by Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis, who is currently the tournament’s leading run-scorer. Their lineup also features aggressive options such as Mohammad Haris, Michael Bracewell, Aaron Hardie, and Iftikhar Ahmed, providing depth across formats of the game.

Their bowling attack has been boosted by emerging talent Ali Raza, spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, and pace options including Mohammad Basit, forming one of the most balanced units this season.

Islamabad United, meanwhile, will rely on a mix of youth and experience, with Sameer Minhas, Mohsin Riaz, and New Zealand batter Devon Conway expected to provide stability at the top. Their bowling attack includes Imad Wasim, Salman Irshad, and Chris Green.

United players opted for light preparation ahead of the match, while Zalmi completed full training sessions.

Pitch conditions at the National Bank Stadium are expected to play a decisive role, with the venue having produced both high-scoring matches and low, spin-friendly surfaces this season.

The winner of the Qualifier will move directly into the PSL final, while the losing side will face another playoff opportunity in the Eliminator.
