Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar today to determine the start of Ramadan, officials confirmed. The committee, chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, indicated that fasting is expected to begin on the same day across the country this year.
Zonal committees in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad are also conducting moon-sighting sessions. Technical support is being provided by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan Meteorological Department, and Suparco (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) to ensure accuracy in observations.
According to Suparco, the lunar crescent is likely to be visible after sunset today. Pending official confirmation, the first day of fasting may begin tomorrow (Thursday).
This unified approach reflects Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to standardize the Ramadan schedule nationwide, balancing traditional moon-sighting practices with scientific assessments.
