KARACHI: Three Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) personnel embraced martyrdom and four others were injured after militants belonging to the India-backed group Jamaat ul Ahrar carried out a coordinated attack on a Rangers camp in Karachi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the attackers detonated an explosive device at the main gate of the camp before attempting to breach the perimeter.

Rangers personnel responded swiftly, foiling the assault by killing three militants and capturing another attacker, identified as an Afghan national, in an injured condition.

The ISPR identified the assailants as Khwarij affiliated with Jamaat ul Ahrar and described the incident as a “cowardly terrorist attack” carried out by an Indian proxy organisation.

Security forces launched a sanitisation operation in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining militants and secure the site.

The military reaffirmed that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative would continue with full force to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

“Pakistan shall undertake retribution operations against the perpetrators of this attack to avenge the martyrdom of its soldiers,” the ISPR said.

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, expressed condolences to the families of the martyred Rangers personnel, stating that their sacrifices strengthened the nation’s resolve to safeguard Pakistan against all threats.

The incident was initially reported near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, where heavy gunfire and an explosion prompted an immediate response from police and other law enforcement agencies.

Authorities sealed roads linking Mosmiyat Chowrangi with Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, Kamran Chowrangi and Chaman Iqbal Colony as security operations continued.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Sindh Inspector General of Police and the Karachi Additional Inspector General to submit a detailed report on the attack. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also sought an immediate report from the Karachi police chief regarding the incident.

Investigations into the attack are underway, while security forces continue clearance operations in the area.
