LAHORE: Lahore police have registered a fresh First Information Report (FIR) over a traffic collision that led to the rescue of two foreign women allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted, as investigators continue to probe the high-profile case.
The latest FIR relates to a vehicle crash near Bhatta Chowk and is separate from the primary investigation into the alleged kidnapping, extortion and sexual assault of a Spanish and a Dutch national.
How Did the Crash Lead to the Rescue?
According to police, the incident occurred when a vehicle carrying the suspects collided with another car on Airport Road before attempting to flee. The driver of the damaged vehicle, identified as Usman, reported the collision to the police emergency helpline (15), prompting officers to respond.
Investigators said the two foreign women escaped from the suspects’ vehicle immediately after the crash and sought refuge in a nearby shop, where they remained until police arrived and rescued them.
What Does the New FIR Allege?
The fresh FIR was lodged on the complaint of Usman, who alleged that the fleeing vehicle caused an estimated Rs300,000 in damage to his car. Police said the case concerns the traffic accident and does not replace the ongoing criminal investigation into the alleged offences against the two foreign nationals.
What Is the Status of the Main Investigation?
Police have already registered a separate FIR against five suspects, including Muhammad Raza Dar, identified by authorities as the grandson of a prominent political figure. The suspects face allegations of kidnapping, extortion and sexual assault.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran said investigators used Safe City surveillance cameras, mobile phone data and vehicle records to trace the suspects, leading to the arrest of four individuals on July 2.
What Happens Next?
Police said the victims’ statements have been recorded before a magistrate. After completing medical examinations and legal formalities, the two women were allowed to leave Pakistan. Authorities said the investigation into the main case remains ongoing.
