Pakistan: Federal Constitutional Court Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan has called for constitutional supremacy, judicial independence and non-discriminatory access to justice, stressing that all state institutions must exercise their authority within the limits set by the Constitution.
Addressing an event in Islamabad on Tuesday to mark the beginning of the new judicial year, Justice Khan said adherence to the Constitution was essential for maintaining social stability and the constitutional order.
Why Did the FCC Chief Justice Stress Constitutional Limits?
Justice Khan said the Constitution clearly defines the powers and jurisdictions of state institutions, making compliance with its provisions essential for the exercise of public authority.
He said access to justice was a fundamental right of every citizen and stressed that constitutional justice must be delivered without discrimination. He also reaffirmed the importance of judicial independence in ensuring fairness and credibility in judicial proceedings.
The chief justice said the start of the new judicial year provided an opportunity to renew the judiciary’s commitment to delivering justice and fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
He further said the FCC had issued several important judgments within a short period, describing the decisions as part of the court’s efforts to discharge its constitutional mandate.
Can Technology Improve Judicial Transparency?
Justice Khan highlighted the growing role of modern technology in judicial affairs, saying digital tools could strengthen institutional capacity and improve transparency in court proceedings and administration.
He also said the FCC had adopted transparent procedures for assigning cases for hearing, stressing that fairness and openness were essential to judicial proceedings.
The chief justice noted that cooperation with the international legal community was also being strengthened through foreign visits and other judicial engagements. He said visits by bar associations and legal delegations to the FCC were important for improving interaction between the court and the wider legal community.
The Federal Constitutional Court was established following Pakistan’s 27th Constitutional Amendment in November 2025, which introduced major changes to the country’s judicial structure.
Justice Khan reaffirmed that the FCC would continue performing its constitutional responsibilities while upholding the principles of judicial independence, fairness and constitutional governance.
