Dubai has announced plans to build a new metro line worth $9.25 billion, with authorities targeting completion by September 2032, according to official details.
The project, known as the “Golden Line,” was unveiled by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as part of efforts to expand the emirate’s transport infrastructure and meet growing urban demand.
The fully underground line will run up to 40 metres below ground and connect 15 key areas across the city. It is expected to serve around 1.5 million people and link 55 major real estate developments currently under construction.
The new line will expand the overall length of the Dubai Metro network by about 35%, authorities said, marking a significant boost to public transport capacity.
With an estimated cost of 34 billion dirhams ($9.25 billion), the Golden Line is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Dubai and is aimed at supporting population growth, easing congestion, and enhancing connectivity across residential and commercial hubs.
Officials said the project forms part of Dubai’s broader long-term development strategy, which focuses on improving mobility, supporting the property sector, and strengthening the city’s position as a global urban and economic centre.
