ISLAMABAD: Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Friday announced a digital transformation initiative that includes a passport mobile application, home delivery service and QR code-based payment system to modernise passport services and improve public convenience.
Speaking to a media outlet, Randhawa said the upcoming passport mobile app will allow citizens to apply for and renew passports online, track the status of their applications and access key passport services through their mobile phones.
He said the department is also introducing a home delivery service to enable applicants to receive their passports at their doorstep, reducing the need for multiple visits to passport offices.
The DG added that a QR code-based digital payment system will be launched to facilitate secure and transparent transactions while curbing illegal practices and the role of middlemen.
Randhawa said the reforms are being implemented under the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as part of the government’s efforts to modernise passport services and improve service delivery across the country.
He said the initiative aims to establish a transparent, efficient and citizen-focused passport system by leveraging technology to provide faster, more reliable services and eliminate corruption and illegal practices.
