Washington, D.C.: NBC4 Washington anchor Joseph Olmo has announced his departure from local television news after nearly 10 years in broadcasting, telling viewers during a live broadcast that he would make his final appearance as a local news reporter on August 24.
Olmo Announces Exit During Live Broadcast
Olmo made the announcement at the beginning of NBC4’s Sunday evening broadcast on August 23, telling viewers he had “one more story” to share.
He reflected on his career in local journalism and said his time as a reporter had been significant. Olmo has worked with NBC4 for more than seven years and has covered the Washington, D.C., area since 2023.
Before joining NBC4, Olmo spent three years covering transportation for DC News Now, a CW-affiliated station.
Reporter Keeps Future Plans Private
Olmo did not disclose what he plans to do after leaving local television news. He said he had several ambitions and suggested that his next move would not come as a surprise to people familiar with him.
His departure ends his current role covering the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia region. Olmo thanked viewers while indicating that he intends to pursue a new direction after leaving broadcast journalism.
