UNITED STATES: FBI Director Kash Patel met Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Washington, reaffirming bilateral cooperation on counterterrorism, cybercrime and financial crime investigations.

Patel said the FBI appreciated Pakistan’s support in protecting US interests in the region and described the partnership between the two countries as critical.

What areas of cooperation were highlighted?

According to Patel, the discussions focused on expanding cooperation through specialised training and resource sharing to combat terrorism financing and strengthen cyber investigations in both countries.

He said the FBI and Pakistan would continue working together to enhance law enforcement collaboration.

What did the FBI director say?

In a post on X, Patel said it was an honour to host the Pakistani delegation and praised Islamabad’s support for US regional interests.

“Our partnership is critical and we look forward to more success ahead,” he wrote.

    Why is the meeting significant?

The meeting took place as Pakistan and the United States continue efforts to strengthen cooperation on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing and combating financial crimes.

Naqvi travelled to Washington after representing Pakistan at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2026 (UNCOPS), which focused on enhancing cooperation among law enforcement agencies of UN member states.

    How have US-Pakistan relations evolved?

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Islamabad and Washington to deepen security cooperation.

Pakistan has remained a key partner of the United States in regional security matters, while both countries have expanded engagement on counterterrorism and intelligence cooperation in recent months.
