US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told lawmakers that gasoline prices appear to have reached their peak following a recent surge linked to the Iran war, signaling a notable shift in tone from earlier uncertainty.
Testifying before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Wright said he does not typically predict future energy prices but noted that current trends suggest prices peaked about a week ago.
His remarks come shortly after President Donald Trump publicly criticized Wright’s earlier cautious stance on fuel price projections.
Wright also highlighted that the recent peak in gasoline prices remained approximately $1 per gallon lower than the highest levels recorded during the administration of former President Joe Biden.
The comments were made as the United States navigates heightened tensions in the Middle East, a key global energy-producing region, amid efforts to wind down a decades-long conflict involving Iran.
