India: India’s women’s cricket team was instructed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after winning the title in Dubai, head coach Amol Muzumdar said.
Muzumdar said the players followed the BCCI’s decision and confirmed that the team had not been informed about when it would receive the trophy. The decision broke with the usual tournament protocol in which the ACC president presents the trophy to the champions.

According to Muzumdar, the BCCI directed the women’s team not to accept the trophy from Naqvi. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla was reportedly present at the stadium and attempted to encourage the players to accept the trophy, but the team followed the board’s instructions.
Has India Previously Refused Trophies From Naqvi?
The decision follows similar incidents involving Indian teams. India’s men’s team reportedly declined to receive the 2025 Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi, while India’s Under-19 team later declined to receive runners-up medals from him after losing to Pakistan in the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup final.
The repeated incidents have added tension to cricketing relations between India and Pakistan and raised questions over the impact of bilateral political tensions on sporting ceremonies.
