🚨 FACT CHECK
Indian Media Claim (May 2025):
“United States has captured Islamabad”, Pakistan’s capital under US control. (Also pushed: “Indian Army captured Islamabad”, “Karachi Port destroyed”, “PM Shehbaz Sharif surrendered”, “military coup in Islamabad”).
VERDICT: 100% FALSE — Reckless Fake News & Propaganda
The Viral Proof:
This Instagram Reel (DXYfE9gDIuw) from @pakistan.econet exposes it perfectly: an Indian news anchor hysterically announces the US “captured Islamabad” while showing completely unrelated footage of a civilian transport plane landing. No US troops. No invasion. Pure studio desperation.
This clip resurfaced and went viral because it perfectly captures the meltdown on Indian TV during Operation Sindoor (May 7–10, 2025).
What Actually Happened (Credible Facts):
- On April 22, 2025, a terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir killed 26 civilians.
- India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeted missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan (May 7).
- The conflict lasted four days and ended in a ceasefire on May 10. India carried out airstrikes; no ground troops crossed into Pakistan, no cities were captured.
The Fake News Tsunami on Indian TV:
On the night of May 8–9, major channels (Zee News, CNN News18, Times Now, Aaj Tak and others) ran non-stop graphics, sirens, computer-generated explosions, recycled foreign footage, and even video game clips claiming dramatic “victories” that never happened.
- No capture of Islamabad.
- No destruction of Karachi Port (it continued normal operations).
- No surrender by PM Shehbaz Sharif.
- No military coup against Army Chief Asim Munir.
Debunked by Credible Sources:
- BOOM Live (independent Indian fact-checker) immediately called out the misreporting: “No evidence of any of these claims.”
- The Guardian reported how social media lies + mainstream Indian TV created a “rush to war” with fabricated defeats of Pakistan.
- Reuters Institute documented how TV channels spread unverified claims of “invasion of Karachi”, “capture of Islamabad” and more.
- Wikipedia & Telegraph India later described it as a “crazy disinformation war” that embarrassed Indian journalism.
Reality Check:
No US forces were involved. No Indian boots on the ground in Islamabad or Karachi. These were TRP-driven lies at a time when two nuclear-armed nations were on edge.
Indian media didn’t just lose credibility, it proved it would sacrifice truth and risk escalation for ratings.
Pakistan stood firm. Facts won. Indian propaganda lost — again.
