A United States-based news outlet, Axios, has reported that the United States and Iran are close to finalizing a one-page memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities and establishing a framework for future nuclear negotiations.
Citing U.S. officials and other sources, the report said Washington is expecting Tehran’s response on several key issues within the next 48 hours.
According to the report, the proposed arrangement would include Iran agreeing to suspend uranium enrichment activities, while the United States would consider lifting sanctions and releasing billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets. It also suggests that both sides may ease restrictions related to maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
The report added that many of the outlined provisions would remain subject to a final comprehensive agreement, leaving uncertainty over whether the ceasefire would hold or whether tensions could re-escalate if negotiations fail to produce a lasting settlement.
