DUBAI: United Arab Emirates presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said Monday that Abu Dhabi was ready to support diplomatic efforts to ease tensions with Iran and called for direct dialogue between Tehran, Washington and Arab countries.
Speaking during a panel discussion in New York, Gargash said regional discussions on security, stability and development should involve Iran and Arab states in addition to US-Iran talks.
What Is the UAE Proposing?
Gargash said the UAE had previously offered to facilitate communication between Iran and the United States. He said Abu Dhabi remained prepared to play a mediating role and urged Tehran to engage directly with Washington.
He also called for broader Iran-Arab dialogue to address regional security and stability.
Why Is the UAE Calling for More Diplomacy?
Gargash warned that the conflict could become prolonged, citing tensions in Yemen, economic sanctions and other complications.
He said greater diplomatic efforts were needed to help address the regional crisis and said the UAE and other countries could face continued instability involving Iran.
Gargash added that such instability did not necessarily imply a change in Iran’s government.
