LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained for 30 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, following the detention of their sister Aleema Khan.
The detentions were ordered by the Lahore deputy commissioner following a police recommendation. Uzma and Noreen were transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail, where Aleema is also being held.
The detentions come ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 protest and march to Islamabad. The detention orders cited public-order and public-safety concerns.
Why Were Imran Khan’s Sisters Detained?
According to the detention orders, authorities cited concerns related to public order and alleged involvement in protests and mobilisation of PTI workers.
PTI has opposed the detentions and challenged the orders through legal proceedings.
What Happened to Aleema Khan’s Sons?
Aleema Khan’s sons, Shahrez Khan and Sher Shah, were also briefly detained, according to their lawyer. Both were later released.
A petition has also been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the detention orders against Aleema, Uzma and Noreen and seeking their release.
