KARACHI: Karachi trader Ali Murtaza, who was killed in a firing incident in Balochistan’s Dasht area, was laid to rest on Sunday as members of the business community demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for a transparent investigation into the attack.
Funeral prayers were offered at Rahmaniya Mosque on Tariq Road before Murtaza was buried at the Society Cemetery. The funeral was attended by family members, relatives, trader representatives and members of the business community.
Business leaders strongly condemned the killing, urging the federal and Balochistan governments to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
Karachi Mobile Dealers Association President Minhaj Gulfam appealed to the government, the Balochistan administration, the Chief of Army Staff and the interior minister to ensure a thorough investigation and the immediate arrest of those involved.
He said the association would determine its future course of action after consultations with the trading community.
Murtaza is survived by his wife and two children. According to trader representatives, his wife remains under medical treatment following the incident.
Describing the attack as an act of terrorism, trader leaders expressed concern over the lack of official engagement with the victim’s family and business representatives since the incident. They called for those responsible to be prosecuted in accordance with the law and demanded justice for the bereaved family.
