LEBANON: A strike attributed to Israeli forces near a hospital in Tyre, Lebanon, has killed at least four people and injured 127 others, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which described the incident as a “grave failure to protect the medical mission.”
The strike reportedly impacted the vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital in southern Lebanon on Monday evening, causing extensive structural damage to the facility, including its inpatient, radiology, and intensive care units. MSF said medical equipment was also severely affected, while one operating room wall was left with a large breach.
Following the impact, hospital staff were forced to urgently relocate approximately half of the patients in intensive care to other wards to ensure their safety amid continuing risks to the facility.
In a statement, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) condemned the strike, warning that repeated attacks near or on medical infrastructure reflect a serious breakdown in the protection of healthcare services in conflict zones. MSF officials emphasized the need to safeguard civilians, medical personnel, health facilities, and uninterrupted access to emergency medical care.
Omar Ebeid, MSF Project Coordinator in southern Lebanon, said the incident highlights escalating risks faced by medical missions operating in conflict zones, where hospitals and emergency services are increasingly exposed to surrounding hostilities.
The strike comes amid heightened tensions in southern Lebanon, where cross-border hostilities have intensified, raising renewed concerns over the protection of civilian infrastructure under international humanitarian law.
