What is Iran’s position on negotiations with the US?
TEHRAN: Iran has said it remains open to a negotiated solution to its conflict with the United States and Israel, while insisting that any agreement must meet conditions set by Tehran, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday.
Araghchi said Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remained unchanged and that the waterway would only be reopened if those conditions were met.
Iran had presented a proposal earlier this week through Qatari mediators, offering a framework for reopening the strategic waterway and pausing regional fighting.
What does Iran say about its nuclear programme?
US President Donald Trump said Saturday that he had rejected Iran’s proposal. Araghchi, however, said Tehran was still waiting for mediators to convey Washington’s official position before making a decision.
Iranian officials have also said Tehran would not make concessions on its nuclear programme, including its stated right to uranium enrichment.
President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was prepared to negotiate over its nuclear programme and other issues but would not accept pressure or coercion.
The conflict has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil transit route, while repeated military strikes have affected the wider region and contributed to disruptions in energy flows.
