Four Terrorists Killed as Security Forces Foil Attack on South Waziristan Checkpost

Security forces kill suicide bomber among attackers; no casualties reported on forces’ side, says ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed four militants, including a suicide bomber, after foiling an attempted attack on a checkpost in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers attempted to breach the security of the checkpost but were stopped by a swift response from security personnel.

    How Was the Attack Foiled?

The ISPR said an explosive-laden vehicle used by the attackers was engaged and destroyed outside the checkpost’s perimeter, killing the suicide bomber inside. The explosion did not cause any damage to the security installation, according to the statement.

Security forces then engaged the remaining attackers, who had taken shelter in a nearby compound. Three militants were killed during a clearance operation, the military’s media wing said.

The operation concluded without any casualties among security personnel, the ISPR added.

What Did Security Forces Say About the Operation?

The military said a sanitization operation was underway in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.

The ISPR described the attackers as “India-sponsored Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists” and said counterterrorism operations under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam would continue to eliminate foreign-supported militant threats.

The incident occurred a day after security forces killed 12 militants following an attack on a joint police checkpost in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the ISPR, militants attempted to breach the checkpost during the night between July 23 and 24 but were repelled by security forces. After failing to enter the facility, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, causing significant damage.

The resulting blast killed 15 people, including 12 military personnel, two police officers and one government official from the former forest department, the military said.

Pakistan has witnessed an increase in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021.

In response to security challenges, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq earlier this year, targeting militant networks and cross-border threats.
