England Beat South Africa to Reach Women’s T20 World Cup Final

ENGLAND: England advanced to the Women’s T20 World Cup final with a commanding 40-run victory over South Africa on Thursday, powered by captain Nat Sciver-Brunt’s match-winning 75 on her return from injury.

After being sent in to bat at the Oval, England recovered from a shaky start of 23-3 to post a competitive 169-5. Sciver-Brunt and former captain Heather Knight steadied the innings with a crucial 133-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Knight contributing 58.

In reply, South Africa failed to build momentum and were restricted to 129-8, handing England a comfortable victory and a place in Sunday’s final against Australia at Lord’s.

How did England recover from an early collapse?

England’s innings got off to a poor start as Amy Jones, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Alice Capsey were dismissed inside the opening four overs.

Sciver-Brunt, returning after missing the final three group-stage matches with a calf injury, rebuilt the innings alongside Knight. Their partnership shifted the momentum before both batters were dismissed in the closing stages, leaving England with a defendable total.

South Africa’s bowling attack was led by Shabnim Ismail, who claimed two wickets, while Marizanne Kapp took one. Left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba finished with two wickets in the final overs.

How did South Africa’s chase unfold?

South Africa’s pursuit suffered an early setback after captain Laura Wolvaardt was dismissed for 17. The Proteas continued to lose wickets at regular intervals despite a fighting half-century from opener Tazmin Brits.

England’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Charlie Dean, Linsey Smith and Freya Kemp making key breakthroughs to prevent any meaningful recovery.

The victory sends unbeaten England into the final, where they will face defending champions Australia, who defeated the West Indies in the first semi-final.
