Cristiano Ronaldo Leads Al Nassr to Saudi Pro League

Riyadh: Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Al Nassr secured the Saudi Pro League title with a 4-1 victory over Damac FC, ending the Portuguese star’s wait for a major domestic trophy since 2020.

Al Nassr entered the final matchday needing a win to clinch the championship and finished the season two points ahead of rivals Al Hilal.

Ronaldo scored both goals in the final half-hour of the match. His first came from a trademark free-kick in the 63rd minute that beat the goalkeeper and several defenders before finding the net. He added another nine minutes from full-time after converting a cut-back from close range.

The 41-year-old forward appeared emotional after being substituted late in the game, watching the closing minutes from the bench as Al Nassr confirmed the league title.

The triumph marks Ronaldo’s first Saudi Pro League title since joining Al Nassr in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United. It is also his first major club trophy since winning Serie A with Juventus in 2020.

Ronaldo has now won league titles in England, Spain, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, alongside five UEFA Champions League titles during his career.

The Portuguese captain recently earned selection for Portugal’s squad ahead of another FIFA World Cup campaign, which would mark his sixth appearance at the tournament.

Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia opened the door for several high-profile transfers to the Saudi Pro League, including stars such as Neymar and Karim Benzema.

Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in sports as part of broader economic diversification efforts, including major spending on football, Formula 1, boxing, golf, and tennis. The kingdom is also set to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo remains the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football with 143 goals and has now taken his overall career tally to 973 goals, moving closer to the 1,000-goal milestone.
