MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Friday announced a revised schedule for the third phase of the Legislative Assembly elections, postponing polling in Poonch and Sudhanoti districts.
Under the updated schedule, voting on August 10 will now be held only in Bagh and Haveli districts. The third phase had originally been planned across 11 constituencies in four districts of the Poonch Division.
Polling schedule revised
The Election Commission did not immediately provide further details on the reasons for postponing polling in Poonch and Sudhanoti. The first two phases of the electoral process were completed on July 27 and August 2 in the Mirpur and Muzaffarabad divisions.
According to unofficial and provisional results, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured the largest number of seats in both phases, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) finished second.
Political parties dispute results
The PPP has alleged that the elections were neither free nor fair and has accused authorities of irregularities during the polling process. The PML-N has rejected the allegations, maintaining that any claims of rigging should be supported with evidence before the Election Commission.
The revised polling schedule comes as the electoral process moves towards its final phase, with the outcome expected to determine the composition of the next AJK Legislative Assembly.
