Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha attributed his side’s defeat against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 to poor execution in key moments of the match. Speaking after the 61-run loss in Colombo, the skipper admitted that Pakistan failed to capitalize on crucial phases, allowing India to take control and maintain pressure throughout the contest.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Pakistan struggled to contain India’s batting lineup. The Indian side posted 175 for five, with Ishan Kishan playing a pivotal role through a well-constructed half-century. Pakistan’s spin attack, expected to make an impact on a turning surface, failed to deliver breakthroughs at decisive stages, which Agha described as an “off day” for the bowling unit.
Chasing a challenging total, Pakistan’s batting faltered early. The loss of quick wickets at the top of the order forced the middle order to adopt a high-risk approach, which further compounded the pressure. The team was eventually bowled out well short of the target, handing India a comprehensive victory.
Reflecting on the performance, Agha emphasized the need for improvement in both bowling discipline and batting partnerships. He acknowledged that execution, rather than strategy, proved to be the decisive factor in the defeat.
With the loss impacting Pakistan’s position in the group standings, the captain urged his team to regroup quickly and focus on their upcoming fixture, which is crucial to keeping their T20 World Cup campaign alive.
