Germany Outclasses Pakistan 5‑2 in FIH Pro League Clash

Pakistan’s national field hockey team continued its challenging campaign in the 2025‑26 FIH Pro League with a 5‑2 loss to world champions Germany at the Tasmania Hockey Centre in Hobart on Wednesday. The defeat marked Pakistan’s fifth consecutive loss in the competition, underscoring ongoing defensive struggles and inconsistency within the Green Shirts’ performance.

Germany seized control early in the match, with Christopher Ruhr scoring in the fifth minute to give the Europeans an initial lead. The Germans extended their advantage when Tom Grambusch converted a penalty corner in the 16th minute, putting Pakistan firmly on the back foot. Pakistan responded in the 18th minute when teenager Mohammad Ammad finished decisively to halve the deficit, briefly raising hopes of a turnaround. However, Germany regained a two‑goal cushion before halftime through Benedikt Schwarzhaupt’s set‑piece finish, leaving Pakistan trailing 3‑1 at the break.

The third quarter proved decisive as Germany continued to dominate. Malte Hellwig increased the margin in the 41st minute, and Raphael Hartkopf added another goal moments later to make it 5‑1, putting the match beyond Pakistan’s reach. Pakistan’s campaign was further complicated when Ghazanfar Ali received a green card, and although Germany was awarded a penalty stroke thereafter, Ruhr failed to convert the opportunity.

In the final quarter, Pakistan showed resilience as Sufyan Khan, 21, converted a penalty corner in the 57th minute, reducing the score to 5‑2. The closing moments of the game were marred by tension, with Pakistan’s Mohammad Abdullah and Germany’s Tom Grambusch both shown yellow cards after a heated exchange. Abdulah had won a penalty corner with only seconds remaining, but play ended before it could be taken.

The loss adds to Pakistan’s difficult Pro League run following four earlier defeats in Argentina and a narrow 3‑2 loss to Australia just the day before. Pakistan is scheduled to face Australia again on Friday before concluding its second‑leg series against Germany on Saturday, as the team seeks a turnaround in form.
