What did Pakistan say about defending Saudi Arabia?
Pakistan: Pakistan will go “to any extent” to defend Saudi Arabia against aggression, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in an interview with Arab News on Thursday.
The ISPR chief said Pakistan fully stands with Saudi Arabia “diplomatically and physically” and described Islamabad’s commitment to the kingdom’s security as “unconditional.”
Does Pakistan’s commitment include Makkah and Madinah?
Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan’s commitment extends to the protection of Makkah and Madinah, stating that Pakistani forces are present to protect the Haramain Sharifain.
His remarks came amid heightened regional tensions and reported Houthi attacks targeting Saudi cities. He also said Pakistan was in contact with regional states to pursue a negotiated and peaceful outcome to the wider Middle East conflict.
The ISPR chief further described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, reached between Washington and Tehran in June following Pakistan-facilitated negotiations, as a consensus document offering a pathway toward resolving the regional crisis.
