RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s armed forces on Sunday reaffirmed their readiness to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any aggression would receive a “swift and decisive response”.
The statement was issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day, as senior military leadership paid tribute to Pakistani soldiers who died in the line of duty.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu and Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza paid tribute to the country’s martyrs, according to the ISPR.
The military said Pakistan remained committed to peace, stability and prosperity in the region, as well as “responsible conduct and peaceful coexistence”.
“However, this commitment must never be mistaken for weakness,” the ISPR said, adding that Pakistan’s armed forces remained fully prepared to protect the country’s national interests.
Military pays tribute to martyrs
The military leadership expressed respect and gratitude to the families of the martyrs and paid tribute to the Ghazis who served in defence of the country.
The ISPR described September 6 as a symbol of national unity, courage and resolve, recalling Pakistan’s defence during the 1965 war.
“The Shuhada of Pakistan embody the highest ideals of honour, duty and sacrifice,” the military said.
The ISPR said the sacrifices of military personnel across the battlefields, skies and seas continued to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
It also acknowledged the resilience of martyrs’ families and paid tribute to veterans for their service and contribution to national defence.
Armed forces renew commitment
On Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the armed forces renewed their pledge to Pakistan and its people, saying they would continue to perform their responsibilities with professionalism and resolve.
The military leadership also reiterated its commitment to maintaining the country’s defence capabilities while pursuing regional peace and stability.
“The supreme sacrifices of our Shuhada, the spirit of our Ghazis and the fortitude of their families will forever remain a source of national strength and pride,” the ISPR said.
