In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Infantino as “fantastic” and credited him with overseeing what he called “the most successful World Cup, by four times, ever presented.” He added that removing Infantino from office would damage FIFA’s commercial success, stating that the tournament would “never be as successful or profitable again” without his leadership.
Infantino is seeking re-election next March and has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. FIFA has also publicly backed its president, describing the criticism against him as part of a coordinated campaign to undermine the organisation.
Football Bodies Divided as Infantino Faces Mounting Pressure
Trump’s endorsement contrasts with the stance taken by US Soccer, which joined Canada Soccer and football associations from Central America and the Caribbean in issuing criticism of Infantino’s leadership. The dispute highlights growing divisions within international football governance as questions continue over the FIFA president’s future.
Despite the criticism, Infantino retains significant backing from several influential football organisations, including the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and South American governing body CONMEBOL, both of which have publicly expressed support for his leadership.
