27 killed, 63 injured in deadly Bangkok pub fire

Thailand: At least 27 people were killed and 63 others injured after a massive fire tore through the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district late Sunday night. The blaze broke out at approximately 11:57 pm local time, making it one of Thailand’s deadliest fire incidents in recent years.

    How did the tragedy unfold?

According to survivor accounts, smoke rapidly filled the venue after a fire erupted near the front stage, followed by a powerful explosion. Many patrons attempted to escape toward the rear of the pub but became trapped because the building reportedly had no emergency fire exits.

    What have authorities said?

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the scene, confirmed that 27 bodies had been recovered while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Bangkok disaster officials said the death toll had stabilised at 27, with rescue teams continuing recovery and identification efforts.

What is known about the cause of the fire?

Authorities said the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Firefighters reported that the fire had already engulfed much of the venue by the time emergency responders arrived. Police and forensic teams are examining the scene to determine how the fire started.

    What did survivors witness?

A band member performing at the venue said the lights briefly went out before smoke quickly spread across the hall, followed by a large explosion and intense flames. He said many victims were unable to escape because of the thick smoke and lack of oxygen inside the building.
