ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran on Wednesday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, cyber security and immigration during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Dr Eskandar Momeni.
According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, the two ministers held detailed discussions on bilateral relations and the regional situation following the recent Iran-US peace agreement signed in Switzerland.
Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, expressing hope that the agreement would contribute to long-term security and economic stability across the Middle East.
He congratulated the Iranian government and its negotiating team on the joint declaration reached in Burgenstock, Switzerland, stating that the agreement marked a significant step toward regional de-escalation.
Momeni thanked Pakistan for its role in supporting diplomatic efforts and praised Islamabad’s contribution to the negotiation process. He also expressed appreciation for the reception extended to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his delegation during their visit to Pakistan.
The two sides welcomed the reduction in regional tensions and agreed to enhance institutional cooperation between their respective interior ministries.
Momeni announced plans to undertake an official visit to Pakistan in the near future to further advance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior Interior Ministry officials, Director General FIA, Commandant National Police Academy and Director General NCCIA.
