US President Donald Trump has said that King Charles agrees with his position that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, while separate reports indicate Washington is considering sustained economic and maritime pressure on Tehran.
Speaking during a state dinner at the White House for the visiting British monarch, Trump said discussions on Middle East issues were ongoing and claimed shared alignment with King Charles on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The king did not address Iran or regional conflicts in his remarks, and Buckingham Palace does not comment on matters of military or foreign policy.
“We’re doing a little Middle East work right now and we’re doing very well,” Trump said, adding that “Charles agrees with me even more than I do” on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
In parallel, a Wall Street Journal report cited by Reuters said Trump has instructed aides to prepare for an extended blockade strategy aimed at Iran. According to the report, the approach would focus on tightening economic and maritime restrictions, including limiting shipping to and from Iranian ports to further constrain its oil exports.
The report said Trump views continued economic pressure as a lower-risk option compared with alternatives such as renewed military strikes or disengagement from the conflict. US officials cited in the report indicated that discussions remain ongoing and no final decision has been publicly confirmed.
The developments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with growing emphasis on sanctions enforcement and maritime security in key shipping routes.
