Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will depart for Kyrgyzstan today (Monday) for a three-day official visit focused on Pakistan’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting and bilateral engagements, the Foreign Office said.

The prime minister will remain in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 2 at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.

The visit comes as Pakistan prepares to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026–27 period.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and senior officials will accompany the prime minister.

What will PM Shehbaz discuss at the SCO summit?

Prime Minister Shehbaz will participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and hold talks with leaders and representatives of participating member states.

According to the Foreign Office, discussions will cover regional and international issues of mutual interest, while Pakistan will use the forum to strengthen cooperation with SCO members.

The summit will also provide an opportunity for Pakistan to engage with regional partners on trade, connectivity, security and economic cooperation.

What is on the agenda for Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan ties?

During his stay in Bishkek, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to meet President Zhaparov for discussions on bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest.

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are expected to discuss ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity and other sectors.

The prime minister’s visit will also mark Pakistan’s preparations to take over the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship for 2026–27, during which Islamabad will oversee the organisation’s activities and host related meetings and events.
