ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting dialogue between the United States and Iran as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held high-level meetings in Tehran focused on bilateral relations, regional security and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking at the Foreign Office’s weekly media briefing, spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Naqvi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional stability and recent geopolitical developments.

According to official sources, Naqvi also conveyed a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir to the Iranian president.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan is continuing efforts to facilitate constructive engagement between Washington and Tehran and remains committed to supporting dialogue aimed at resolving regional disputes through peaceful means.

Andrabi said Islamabad would continue to work through direct and indirect diplomatic channels to help sustain negotiations and prevent efforts that could undermine the dialogue process.

How Has Pakistan Responded to the Red Sea Attack on a Commercial Vessel?

Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar condemned a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea that resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani nationals and left another Pakistani injured.

In a statement, Dar described the attack as a violation of international law that endangered civilian lives and threatened freedom of navigation, maritime security and commercial shipping in one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.

He said the Pakistani government was coordinating with Saudi authorities and the internationally recognised government of Yemen to obtain further details about the incident.

Dar added that Pakistan’s embassy in Riyadh had been instructed to work with the relevant authorities to facilitate the recovery and repatriation of the victims’ remains and provide all possible assistance to the injured Pakistani national.

The developments come amid renewed tensions in the Middle East following attacks on shipping near the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, raising concerns over regional security and the safety of global energy and trade routes.
