Japan: Pakistan defeated India 3-0 in the men’s volleyball quarter-final at the 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, winning 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium to advance to the semi-finals. The victory ended India’s campaign in the competition and marked Pakistan’s return to the Asian Games last four after a long absence.

How Did Pakistan Take Control of the Match?

Pakistan established an early advantage in the opening set, winning 25-19 after 23 minutes. The Pakistani attack was particularly effective, with the team producing a much higher spike-success rate than India during the set. India struggled to contain Pakistan at the net as the Green Shirts built an early lead and maintained control.

The second set proved more competitive. India moved ahead 15-13 and later extended its advantage to 19-16, putting Pakistan under pressure. Pakistan responded with a three-point run to level the score at 19-19 before taking the lead. India saved one set point at 24-22, but Pakistan converted the next opportunity to win 25-23 after a 34-minute battle.

How Did Pakistan Close Out the Victory?

Pakistan dominated the third set after India briefly reduced the deficit to 3-2 and 6-4. The Green Shirts then pulled away to lead 8-4, 14-9 and 17-10, maintaining control through the remainder of the set.

Pakistan reached match point at 24-16. India saved two match points, but Pakistan secured the third opportunity to win 25-18 and complete the straight-sets victory.

    Who Led Pakistan’s Attack?

Murad Khan was among Pakistan’s leading performers, finishing with 19 points according to multiple match reports, while Usman Faryad Ali contributed 13. Pakistan’s attacking strength was reflected in the overall statistics, with the team recording 50 successful spikes from 83 attempts compared with India’s 33 from 81 attempts.

Pakistan also held the advantage in blocking and defensive recovery. One statistical breakdown recorded six successful blocks for Pakistan compared with four for India, while Pakistan produced 17 successful digs compared with India’s seven.

What Was the Difference in the Final Statistics?

Pakistan finished with 75 total points compared with India’s 60. Pakistan’s attack produced 50 successful spikes, while India managed 33. Pakistan also recorded six successful blocks to India’s four and had the stronger defensive digging figures.

India did have a narrow advantage in service points and benefited from more points generated by Pakistan’s errors, but those gains were not enough to offset Pakistan’s superiority in attack, blocking and defence.

What Does the Victory Mean for Pakistan?

The result sends Pakistan into the Asian Games volleyball semi-finals, where the team will face the winner of the quarter-final between South Korea and defending champions Iran. The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, with the gold-medal and bronze-medal matches set for Saturday.

Pakistan entered the knockout stage after beating Kazakhstan 3-1 and Uzbekistan 3-0 before losing 3-0 to hosts Japan in their final pool match. India, meanwhile, had reached the quarter-finals unbeaten after victories over Vietnam, Hong Kong and Qatar.

The 3-0 result also continued Pakistan’s strong recent Asian Games record against India in men’s volleyball, with Pakistan recording another straight-sets victory over its regional rival.
