US singer Bebe Rexha has recalled Taylor Swift’s support during a difficult period before the 2019 Grammy Awards, saying Swift reached out after Rexha struggled to find a designer willing to dress her.
Rexha discussed the experience while speaking to E! News at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27.
What did Taylor Swift do for Bebe Rexha?
Rexha said Swift contacted her during the 2019 Grammys controversy and made her feel supported when she was having difficulty finding a designer.
Rexha, who was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance that year, said several designers had declined to dress her because of her size.
She previously addressed the issue on Instagram, criticizing what she described as the fashion industry’s narrow standards.
How did the fashion industry respond?
Designer August Getty subsequently offered to create a gown for Rexha, publicly expressing support for women of all sizes.
Rexha said Swift’s gesture remained memorable because she felt few people had reached out to her at the time.
Swift was also recognized at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with the inaugural Artist Director Honors, which recognizes artists for their behind-the-camera contributions to music-video storytelling.
