KINGSTON: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has equalled the national record for the most Player of the Series awards won by a Pakistani cricketer across all international formats after helping Pakistan secure the Test series against the West Indies.
Babar was named co-recipient of the Player of the Series award alongside West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves following the two-match series.
The award takes Babar’s career tally to 10, drawing him level with former Pakistan captains Imran Khan and Wasim Akram at the top of the all-time list.
How Did Babar Azam Earn the Award?
Babar finished as the leading run-scorer in the series with 193 runs in four innings at an average of 96.50.
After scoring 23 in the first innings of the opening Test, he followed with a half-century in the second innings before making an 88-run contribution in the first innings of the second Test. He ended the series with an unbeaten 24 as Pakistan successfully chased a target of 75.
Justin Greaves shared the Player of the Series honour after scoring 111 runs and claiming seven wickets during the series.
What Record Has Babar Equalled?
The award is Babar’s first Player of the Series recognition in Test cricket, adding to his previous five awards in T20 Internationals and four in One-Day Internationals.
His overall tally of 10 equals the record jointly held by Imran Khan and Wasim Akram for the most Player of the Series awards by a Pakistani cricketer across all international formats.
