Hajj flight operations from Pakistan have commenced, with the first batch of pilgrims departing from Jinnah International Airport aboard a private airline, airport authorities said.

A total of 160 pilgrims travelled on the inaugural flight to Madinah, where they were received by airport officials and Hajj service providers. Under the government’s Road to Makkah initiative, immigration procedures for the pilgrims were completed prior to departure in Pakistan.

Separately, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to begin its Hajj operations, planning to transport more than 55,000 pilgrims through 191 flights to Saudi Arabia.

According to the airline, around 49,000 pilgrims will travel under the government scheme, while approximately 6,000 will perform Hajj through private arrangements. PIA’s operations will cover multiple cities, including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Quetta.

The first PIA Hajj flight is scheduled to depart from Sialkot to Madinah, while additional flights from Faisalabad, Multan, Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi and Lahore will follow in phases.

Officials said Hajj 2026 arrangements are in place for approximately 180,000 pilgrims, including 120,000 under the government scheme and 60,000 travelling privately.

Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, said preparations had been completed to ensure smooth operations, with no additional cost imposed on pilgrims. He highlighted improvements, including the introduction of a new Lahore-to-Saudi Arabia route to facilitate travel.

The minister said authorities are coordinating closely to manage flights, accommodation, transport and other services, aiming to ensure a safe and comfortable pilgrimage experience.

He also reaffirmed strong cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in facilitating Hajj operations and ensuring high standards for pilgrims.
