Pakistan and Argentina have held preliminary discussions on strengthening football cooperation, including the possibility of an international friendly between their national teams, sources familiar with the matter said.
Officials from the Pakistan Football Federation and the Argentine Football Association engaged in an online meeting where they explored multiple areas of collaboration. These included coaching development, technical training programmes and broader initiatives aimed at improving football infrastructure in Pakistan.
The two sides also discussed the potential for Argentine coaches to visit Pakistan under a structured development programme, alongside plans for a wider technical partnership to support long-term growth of the sport.
According to an official statement from Pakistan’s mission in Argentina, the meeting was described as “productive and forward-looking” and was coordinated to bring together both federations following the launch of the “AFA Pakistan” brand. The initiative reflects Argentina’s interest in building deeper engagement with Pakistan’s football ecosystem.
The meeting was chaired by Pakistan’s ambassador to Argentina, Hassan Afzal Khan, and attended by PFF President Syed Mohsin Gilani and AFA Marketing Director Francisco Lemmi.
Ambassador Hassan described the engagement as an opportunity to enhance bilateral cooperation and contribute to football development in Pakistan. Gilani welcomed the outreach, emphasising the need for a structured and sustainable partnership focused on long-term benefits.
If finalised, the proposed friendly match is expected to take place after the FIFA World Cup, with both sides agreeing to continue discussions on logistical and technical aspects before reaching a formal agreement.
Sources said the talks remain at an early stage, with further coordination required before any final decisions are made.
