The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has formed a committee to address concerns raised by taxpayers, the tax authority announced following a meeting with representatives of major tax bar associations on Friday.

FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial held the meeting at the board’s headquarters with members of the Pakistan, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi-Islamabad tax bar associations to discuss challenges faced by taxpayers, particularly relating to the super tax and SRO 350(I)/2024.

In an official statement, the FBR said the committee has been tasked with examining issues brought forward by the tax bar and proposing practical solutions for their early resolution. The move is part of efforts to facilitate taxpayers and enhance voluntary compliance.

Officials from the FBR’s Inland Revenue wing, including members responsible for operations, policy and legal matters, also attended the discussions.

Chairman Langrial acknowledged the consultative role of the tax bar associations and said their expertise on Pakistan’s taxation framework makes their input valuable for refining policy and improving the system.

The committee’s formation marks the latest step by the revenue authority to engage stakeholders amid ongoing taxpayer concerns over new tax measures and compliance challenges.

There has been no immediate comment from taxpayer advocacy groups following the announcement.
