At least 11 people were killed and several others injured in a serious road crash on the National Highway near Tando Masti in Khairpur District on Saturday night. The collision involved a passenger bus and a trailer, according to rescue and police sources. Among the deceased were nine passengers, the bus driver and the conductor, police said; others injured in the smash were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The bus, which was traveling from Punjab province toward Karachi, collided with the trailer on the busy highway, triggering the deadly crash. Rescue teams, including Rescue 1122 and local police, reached the scene soon after receiving a distress call and began transport of casualties to medical facilities. Authorities closed the section of the highway briefly to handle the incident and later restored traffic.
Police and motorway authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Preliminary reports cited excessive speed and an unsafe maneuver by the vehicles as likely factors in the head-on accident, and forensic teams were collecting evidence and eyewitness statements as part of the inquiry.
The Sindh police and rescue officials continue to coordinate the emergency response, with the exact number of injuries still being confirmed as efforts to treat the wounded continue at local hospitals.
