LAHORE: Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has decided to withdraw from the Lausanne Diamond League later this month in order to undertake a training camp in South Africa as he prepares for upcoming international competitions.
Nadeem, who is currently training at Punjab Stadium in Lahore, has opted to prioritise overseas preparation instead of competing in the Diamond League meeting scheduled for August 21. Although his name was included in the event’s entry list, he will not participate.
According to sources, the 28-year-old javelin thrower will travel to Potchefstroom, South Africa, for a two-week training camp after receiving his visa. The venue is familiar to Nadeem, who has previously completed two training stints there.
What Competitions Will Nadeem Target Next?
The decision follows Nadeem’s disappointing performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where the defending champion finished ninth in the men’s javelin throw final with a best effort of 77.41 metres.
Unable to finish among the top eight after the opening three rounds, Nadeem was eliminated from the competition earlier than expected.
Following his training programme in South Africa, Nadeem is expected to compete at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest from September 6 to 14, before representing Pakistan at the Asian Games later this year.
The training camp is aimed at helping the Olympic champion regain top form ahead of the major international events on his competition calendar.
