LOS ANGELES: Actor Mark Hamill has publicly congratulated newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce while joking that he missed their high-profile wedding because he “wasn’t invited.”
The Star Wars star shared a photograph of the couple on Instagram on Sunday, writing: “Congratulations to the newlyweds!” before adding a humorous explanation for his absence.
“I declined to attend the wedding for a variety of personal reasons, but mainly because I wasn’t invited.”
The self-deprecating post quickly gained attention on social media following the couple’s widely publicized wedding celebrations.
Who Attended the Wedding?
Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce were married on July 3 during a lavish ceremony and reception at Madison Square Garden in New York, attended by approximately 1,000 guests.
The event brought together prominent figures from the entertainment, music and sports industries, including Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Ed Sheeran and Paul McCartney.
What Made the Ceremony Unique?
Actor Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony and reportedly performed an original song for the couple. Musical performances also featured Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney, who is reported to have performed The Beatles’ classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”
Hamill’s light-hearted remarks added a humorous postscript to one of the year’s most closely watched celebrity weddings.
