CAIRO: Egypt’s government has added four state-owned companies to its ongoing privatisation programme as part of efforts to expand private sector participation in the economy, the cabinet said on Saturday.
The decision was announced as part of broader economic reforms aimed at improving efficiency, attracting foreign investment, and reducing the state’s role in commercial activity.
According to the cabinet statement, the companies will be offered through public sale mechanisms under the state asset divestment plan. Further details on the timeline and valuation of the firms were not immediately disclosed.
Egypt has been gradually expanding its privatisation programme in recent years as it seeks to address fiscal pressures and support growth amid rising debt and currency challenges.
The latest inclusion of state firms signals continued implementation of the government’s economic reform agenda in coordination with international financial partners.
No further information was provided on which sectors the companies operate in or when transactions are expected to begin.
