ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th day of Muharram-ul-Haram, is being observed across Pakistan today with mourning processions, religious gatherings and enhanced security measures to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Processions are being held in cities and towns nationwide, while religious scholars are delivering sermons highlighting the life, teachings and sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), emphasizing the lessons of Karbala for the Muslim Ummah.

Alam, Taazia and Zuljanah processions are also taking place to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.

Authorities have deployed comprehensive security arrangements across the country to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura and prevent any untoward incidents.

In separate messages issued on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on the nation to uphold the values of truth, justice, patience, unity, inter-sect harmony and tolerance, describing the tragedy of Karbala as a timeless example of sacrifice and steadfastness.

President Zardari said Youm-e-Ashur serves as a reminder of the principles of perseverance, truthfulness and human dignity, urging citizens to promote peace, brotherhood and sectarian harmony while refraining from rumours and provocative behaviour. He also prayed for unity, peace and prosperity for Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions remains an enduring symbol of standing for justice and righteousness against oppression. He urged religious scholars, spiritual leaders, the media and the youth to promote the true message of Karbala and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of the weak and upholding truth and justice.

Both leaders prayed for lasting peace, stability and unity in Pakistan and across the Muslim world.
