ISLAMABAD: World leaders and international organizations have welcomed the breakthrough peace agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a major step toward ending regional hostilities and restoring stability in the Middle East.
The framework agreement, announced by US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials, provides for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the US blockade on Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed the agreement as a significant diplomatic achievement and commended Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye for supporting negotiations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also welcomed the deal, describing it as an important step toward regional peace and specifically acknowledging Pakistan’s mediation role.
Leaders from Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand and Qatar similarly praised the agreement and called for its swift implementation. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the deal could help stabilize the region and secure international maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a joint statement, the E4 countries—France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom—reaffirmed their commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and expressed readiness to work with the United States, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency on future nuclear-related arrangements.
Pakistan, which played a key mediating role in the negotiations, received widespread international recognition for helping facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran, with several leaders crediting Islamabad’s diplomatic engagement for contributing to the breakthrough agreement.
