Karachi / Sindh, May 22: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a severe heatwave across several districts of Sindh from May 25 to May 31, with temperatures expected to rise 4 to 6°C above normal levels.

According to a weather advisory issued on Friday, a high-pressure system is likely to develop in the upper atmosphere from May 25, triggering extreme heat conditions across the province.

The Met Office said temperatures in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Dadu may range between 47°C and 50°C during the heatwave period.

Districts including Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Ghotki, and Naushahro Feroze are also expected to face severe heatwave conditions.

In southern Sindh, Hyderabad, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas are likely to experience temperatures between 44°C and 47°C, while Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, and Sanghar may also see highs approaching 47°C.

The PMD advised children, women, and elderly citizens to take precautionary measures, warning of increased health risks due to extreme heat. It also urged farmers to protect crops and livestock from heat stress.

Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next three days, with maximum temperatures forecast at 36°C today and between 35°C and 37°C on May 23 and 24.

Earlier, the PMD had warned that moderate to severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect most parts of Pakistan, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, from May 25 onwards due to strengthening high-pressure systems.
