United States: Donald Trump has said that the United States does not expect further escalation in tensions with Cuba following the indictment of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro in connection with the 1996 shooting down of exile aircraft.
Trump said the US is “freeing up Cuba” and emphasised that the legal action taken in Miami should not lead to any military or diplomatic escalation between Washington and Havana.
The remarks come amid renewed legal and political attention on historical cases involving Cuba–US relations, particularly incidents linked to Cuban exile groups in the 1990s.
Despite the indictment, Trump signalled that the US government is not seeking heightened confrontation with Cuba, suggesting that the move should be viewed as a judicial matter rather than a trigger for escalation.
