Reports of renewed tension between former One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson have intensified following recent social media activity and developments linked to their planned Netflix documentary series.
Over the weekend, Louis Tomlinson unfollowed Zayn Malik on Instagram, while continuing to follow Harry Styles and Niall Horan. Malik, however, still follows Tomlinson, making the change more conspicuous and fueling speculation about a widening rift.
Further attention was drawn when Tomlinson’s sisters, Phoebe and Lottie, also reportedly unfollowed Malik, adding to perceptions of strained relations within the group’s extended circle.
The developments come amid reports of a fallout during the filming of a Netflix road-trip documentary project that was expected to feature Malik and Tomlinson revisiting key moments from their One Direction years, including the band’s breakup and subsequent individual careers. The series had also been expected to address the death of Liam Payne in 2024.
Director Nicola Marsh alluded to complications during production, reportedly describing the situation as a setback to what had been “a year of work,” though no official confirmation of cancellation has been issued.
The project, first announced in October, had generated significant fan anticipation as a potential step toward reconciliation between Malik and Tomlinson, whose relationship has remained strained since Malik’s departure from One Direction in 2015.
Despite earlier signs of easing tensions—including Malik attending one of Tomlinson’s 2025 performances and describing the moment as “special”—recent developments suggest that any reconciliation remains uncertain.
As of now, neither Malik nor Tomlinson has publicly commented on the reported fallout or the status of the Netflix project.
