President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday extended Easter greetings to the Christian community, commending its “admirable services” and contribution to Pakistan’s development.
In separate messages marking the Easter, both leaders highlighted the role of Christians in sectors including education, healthcare, defence, and social services.
President Zardari said the occasion carries a message of “hope, renewal, and compassion”, adding that Christian citizens are an integral part of Pakistan’s social fabric. He reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring the protection of minority rights, including life, property, and religious freedom.
He also recalled the contributions of S. P. Singha during the creation of Pakistan and Cecil Chaudhry in the 1965 war, terming them significant to national history.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said the Christian community continues to play an “active and invaluable role” in the country’s economic and social progress. He stressed that the message of peace and harmony embedded in religious teachings is increasingly important in the current global environment.
The premier reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the religious, economic, and educational rights of minorities, and called for unity and collective efforts toward national development.
Christian communities across Pakistan marked Easter with religious devotion and celebrations, including special prayers and church services.
