Trump Praises Pakistan Leadership for Mediating US-Iran Talks Amid Regional Tensions

US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s political and military leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, according to remarks made in a television interview.

Speaking during a conversation with Fox News, Trump described the Pakistani leadership as “great people” and said he held “great respect” for their efforts in mediating US-Iran contacts amid ongoing regional tensions.

He said he cancelled a planned visit by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, citing logistical concerns and the cost of travel, and suggested that communication channels with Iran remain open through direct contact.

“If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us,” Trump said, adding that secure communication lines were available.

The US president acknowledged Pakistan’s continued involvement in facilitating dialogue, stating that Islamabad would remain part of the broader negotiation process between Washington and Tehran.

Trump has repeatedly credited Pakistan’s leadership for assisting diplomatic efforts, including hosting early-stage discussions in Islamabad in April. He has also previously praised the “competent leadership” of both Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir for their role in easing regional tensions.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator in efforts to bring the US and Iran closer to negotiations following months of conflict in the region. Field Marshal Munir has reportedly played a central diplomatic role, engaging with both American and Iranian delegations during recent talks.

The renewed diplomatic engagement comes amid broader efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, where regional conflict has disrupted security and economic stability.
